FAQ
We have an answer to all your questions
Can I dive if I have never dived before?
Yes. With Discover Scuba Diving you need no experience at all – an instructor is by your side the whole time, in calm, shallow water.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
You should feel comfortable in the water and be able to swim a little – you do not have to be an athlete.
Is diving dangerous, especially for beginners?
With an instructor and by the rules, diving is very safe. We dive in small groups (max. four per guide), slowly and without rushing.
I am nervous or afraid. Is diving still something for me?
Most of our beginners feel the same way. That is exactly why we go calmly, in shallow water and at your pace – you can pause or surface at any time.
How deep do you go on the first dives?
Shallow. Beginners start in shallow water where you can almost stand; deeper only once you feel ready.
From what age can you dive? Can children join?
Discover Scuba Diving from age 10, the Open Water Diver course from age 10 (Junior). Under 18 with parental consent.
Do I need a medical certificate or a health check?
You fill in a short medical questionnaire beforehand. If anything in it stands out, we will tell you whether a doctor's confirmation is needed.
Can I dive with glasses or contact lenses?
Contact lenses are usually no problem. For stronger vision impairment there are dive masks with prescription lenses.
I have a pre-existing condition – can I still dive?
That depends on the individual case. The medical questionnaire covers this, and where necessary a dive doctor confirms your fitness – we guide you through it.
How long does the Open Water Diver course take?
Usually three to four days. We take the time you need, without rushing.
Is PADI certification recognised worldwide? Does it expire?
PADI is the largest diving organisation in the world. Your certification is recognised worldwide and never expires.
I am certified with SSI or CMAS – can I dive with you or continue my training?
Yes. The certifications are mutually recognised – you can dive with us and continue your training.
What is the difference between Discover Scuba Diving and a course?
Discover Scuba Diving is a guided try-out, without certification. A course ends with a certification card that you keep for life.
Will I receive a certificate (certification card) at the end?
Yes. After passing the course you receive your internationally recognised PADI certification.
Is a dive course worth it on holiday, or better at home?
The warm, clear water of the Red Sea is among the most beautiful places to learn to dive – and you go home as a certified diver.
Do your instructors speak German?
Yes. Our team is German-speaking – you are understood at every step, even underwater.
Will you pick me up from my hotel?
Yes. Within Hurghada we pick you up free of charge. For Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna and Makadi the transfer costs 15 €. Just tell us your hotel.
What do I need to bring? Do I need my own equipment?
Swimwear, a towel and sun protection are enough. We provide the complete diving equipment.
When is the best time to travel, how warm is the water, do I need a wetsuit?
The Red Sea is warm all year round – you can dive in any season. You get a suitable wetsuit from us.
What will I see underwater? Are there sharks – is that dangerous?
Colourful coral reefs, turtles and countless fish. The reef sharks of the Red Sea are shy – a sighting is a highlight, not a danger.
